Meh on Tomb Raider King
Have you ever wished for a SCP spin off spiced up with a bit of sadomasochism? No? Well tough luck sweetie, you do now.
Meet MC: he is a dommy twunk. If you don't know what both of these words mean, congratulations! You are pure. BONDAGE ROPE RELIC, SEIZE THEM! THEY MUST NOT ESCAPE!
But yeah, it's messy. A bloated mess. The premise is nothing short of incredible: seemingly mundane malicious magical artifacts? They built the entire SCP Foundation universe on that. The potential is unlimited.
But it is not fulfilled. The manga goes in the opposite direction. The relic power system is chaotic, there are too many of them, they have unexplained limits and capabilities, they are not used smartly; the tombs' settings and environments are shallow, cleared swiftly after waltzing in. It let's you down, when the action gets on, and the plot is non-existent.
I mean, the boi here has all the credentials, in theory. The art is good, the characters are likeable, entertaining. Very charming. MC is downright devious, he is the ultimate scammer: get distracted once and say goodbye to both of your kidneys. And the relics are adorably sociopathic. All this notwithstanding, this is a journey about zany adventures and funny bits, not about breathtaking action scenes or high stakes. It had the potential for that too, but the concept is used this way instead, and it's not helped by the fact its pacing is unbearable. 400 chapters of zany quirky nonsense? How about no?
I kinda liked the first 150 chapters, for what they are. But I can't stomach more. I'll recommend this as a fun scammy tale of morally questionable antics, and as a 6½ on the Ivern Scale™️, but only if you can endure it. I can't.
